Hi! I’m Sarah Margaux. I live in Berkeley, California.
In 1995, I began practicing Yoga. I spent the following 11 years exploring, expanding, learning from many different teachers with diverse lineages. My most notable influence those years was Sri Dharma Mittra, although there were many potent teachers along the way. Sri Dharma remains a wellspring of motivation.
After meeting Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 2006, my daily practice became focused on Ashtanga Yoga. Since then, I’ve spent many years studying with senior Ashtanga teachers Tim Miller, Richard Freeman, and Mary Taylor. Ongoing studies with Richard and Mary, as well as Peter Sanson, are a source of great inspiration.
During time spent in India, I’ve practiced with Saraswathi Jois, Sharath Jois, and Sharmila Desai. Additionally in India, I’ve studied philosophy and chanting of Sanskrit texts with Dr. M.A. Jayashree and Professor Narasimhan, which has deepened my connection to the Krishnamacharya lineage.
In 2007, I sat in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the first time during his visit to San Francisco. In 2014, I made my first journey to HHDL’s temple in Dharamsala. I returned again to McLeodganj for studies in 2019. Infinite gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, and Tsenzhab Serkong Rinpoche II for precious teachings.
2013 marked the year I began sharing these powerful practices. To continue learning, it’s said one must teach. What a beautiful path. Thank you to my students for blessing me with great purpose.
Sadhana is the ultimate teacher/healer. As the saying goes, 99% practice, 1% theory. ॐ
